Free English ESL Links and Resources (No subscription)

There are thousands of English ESL websites full of games for students, but many of them require monthly subscriptions which can soon become very expensive.
Here are some great websites that I have found over the years. No sign up, free of charge and high quality. If you’re looking for fun games and activities to help your child learn English, then look no further.
- Phonics Bloom – A superb collection of phonics games to help practice those essential sounds. Many free activities, many more available for a small yearly fee. Well made and highly effective, this site is a must for learners building their reading skills.
- Pocoyo – Cambridge English – If your child loves Pocoyo, then these videos and resources will provide hours of fun and lots of learning!
- PBS KIDS – Many fun games and videos featuring some favourite characters such as Curious George and Peg + Cat!
- Starfall Education: Kids Games, Movies, & Books K-3 – Stories, games and much, much more. Interactive and fun!
- Activities for children | Cambridge English – Pre-A1, A1 and A2 games and activities to practice vocabulary, listening and reading!
- Top Marks – A huge collection of English and math activities for children of all ages. Easy to navigate, tons of fun, this is one of my favourite sites for education.
- British Council – Learn English Kids – Lots of games, activities, lessons and worksheets for young learners from one of the most respected English language websites in the UK.
- Online ESL Games1: Many games to practice vocabulary, grammar, spelling and pronunciation.
- Games | Baamboozle – Baamboozle | The Most Fun Classroom Games! – Quizzes on almest every subject you can think of! Teacher-made, so some are better than others, so check the quiz before sharing them.
- Fun English Games for Kids – Games, activities, videos and more for young learners of all levels.
- ICT Games – Games for English, Math and so much more. Fantastic resources, free of charge.
- ESL Games – ESL Kids Games – A huge range of great games, including many favourites such as ‘Spin the Wheel’, ‘Odd One Out’ and ‘Name 5’.
- ISL Collective – Worksheets, video lessons and presentations. The video lessons are especially good. Created by teachers, so check the activities before sharing them.
- Twinkl – A subscription website for teachers but with plenty of free resources for parents.
- Activities for Learners | Learning English | Cambridge English (Best for Ages 11 and up) – Listening, reading, grammar and more from Cambridge English, one of the most respected teaching organisations in the world.
- British Council – Learn English Teens – Activities aimed at teenagers from the British Council. Grammar lessons, videos, games, quizzes and more. Perfect for older and more confident learners.
- BrainPOP – A brilliant collection of resources for teachers, very valuable teaching ideas for parents. Picture activities, teaching ideas, advice and much more. An excellent collection for anyone interested in supporting their child’s English language learning.
- English Practice Online – Fantastic resources for every English skill you can think of, from Elementary to Upper Intermediate. An incredible resource for learners aged 10 and up.
- Breaking News English – A great collection of news articles with activities for older, more confident learners. Each article has different versions for different levels of learner.
- Word Games & Quizzes | Merriam-Webster – Challenging word games, tests and activities from the publishers of one of America’s most trusted dictionaries.
- BBC English – Activities for learners of all ages and abilities from the BBC. May not be available in all countries.
N.B: Many of these sites will have a ‘sign in’ option, but it’s not needed for most, if not all, of their resources.
